About the DVD:
The course was designed for scientists, managers, technicians and engineers to acquire a comprehensive overview of the field of microfluidics. Starting with the underlying physical principles of miniaturization, the course includes an introduction into microfabrication technologies for microfluidic devices covering a wide range of existing materials (glass, silicon, polymers) and manufacturing technologies and describes the complete development cycle of a microfluidic device from the design to the ready-to-use device. Applications of microfluidics in point-of-care and clinical diagnostics, analytical and synthetic chemistry, biotechnology and cell biology will be presented. The course provided an insight into the business aspects of the field and the uptake of microfluidic technology in various markets.
2 Presentations | 144 slides | 251 minutes | For Only - $345.00
Learning Objectives:
• Understand the basic physical principles and scaling laws governing miniaturization
• Identify the suitable material for a given microfluidic application
• Understand the basic technologies available for the microfabrication of glass, silicon and polymer materials and follow the device manufacturing process from design to the finished microfluidic device

Ban smoking, save a life
Smokers take heed: a new study shows that passive smoking is responsible for more than 600,000 deaths each year worldwide, representing 1% of all deaths. Tragically, 165,000 of these deaths are among children. The results are published online in The Lance...
EU-funded mathematicians piece together radio frequency design puzzle
Scientists in Europe have pooled their knowledge and ideas to develop and deploy integrated simulation algorithms and prototype tools to overcome the barriers in both existing and future radio frequency design flows. The result is part of the ICESTARS ('I...

Theoretical Chemistry 14 March 2010 The Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling (TCCM) Master is an initiative of 47 european institutions from 8 different European countries that aims to:
* Establish a European standard for research-oriented studies in TCCM.
* Prepare experts in the use and development of computational techniques in molecular sciences, to work with innovative pharmaceutical, petrochemical and new-materials industries.
* Prepare students for doctoral studies in Chemistry, Physics, Life or Material Sciences.
* Promote international mobility of research students.
* Offer to students from a wide range of countries (including non-European ones) a highly qualified title at the post-bachelor level.
European and non-European students can apply for ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIPS to follow these Master studies. The scholarship includes, per year, tuition fees and insurance, and a monthly payment amounting to 6000 EUR for European students and 16000 EUR for non-EU students, including the travel expenses. Please note that no more than two students from the same country and only one from each institution can be awarded an E Interuniversity Masters 12 January 2010 This interuniversity master covers scientific and technological areas of current interest like Molecular Electronics, Molecular Magnetism, Supramolecular Chemistry, Surface Physics, Molecular Materials Science or Medical Physics. The molecular approach is a specific and unique value-added feature, as it is in the molecular region of Nanoscience where the experience of chemists and biologists in molecule design and self-assembly is complemented by the experience of physicists in the study and handling of nanoobjects at a nanometric scale.
From 60 to 120 ECTS depending on the student's previous education.
The interuniversity master has two basic goals:
* To lay down a national excellence standard in Molecular Science to empower students to research in this area or for them to gain useful knowledge and skills to be able to develop a career in high technology companies.
* To create a multidisciplinary and competitive scientific community in Spain to research in these subjects. In this respect, the master is a suitable framework for the promotion of mobility and interaction between students from different scientific areas and contacts with other universities, research centres and companies operating in this area.
On completion of the course, students will be trained, on a multidisciplinary basis, in chemical aspects related with nanoscience (nanoscience bottom-up approach for the design of functional molecules and supramolecular structures; intermolecular interactions; molecular self-assembly and self-organisation) and in physical ones (nanomanufacturing top-down approach, physical manipulation techniques, organisation and characterisation of nanomaterials).
They will also learn to address scientific problems from the perspective of Materials Science. Lastly, they will have an overview of the impact of nanoscience on other scientific and technological areas such as electronics, chemistry, biomedicine, or materials science.
Participating universities: Universitat de València, Universitat d´Alacant, Universidad de Valladolid, Universitat Jaume I, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Universidad de La Laguna.
The maximum number of students is restricted to 100
