Die REGIO BASILIENSIS ist die Schweizer Partnerin für die Oberrhein-Kooperation. Ihr Zweck ist es, von schweizerischer Seite Impulse für die Entwicklung des oberrheinischen Raumes zu einer zusammengehörigen europäischen Grenzregion zu geben und bei deren Realisierung mitzuwirken.
The University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW is a state-accredited university of applied sciences: this unique concept in Swiss tertiary education is designed to meet professional needs in education, research and consulting.
Situated amidst leading international clusters the FHNW's nine schools maintain close links with society, culture and industry: its high quality graduate, postgraduate and continuing education focuses on applied knowledge. Research and consulting activity is practice oriented.
We teach over 8'000 degree students and nearly 40'000 participants in continuing education. We conduct over 550 research or consulting projects. We have 200 mobility partners.

Das Fraunhofer-Institut für Physikalische Messtechnik IPM betreibt Forschung und Entwicklung im Bereich der optischen Sensor- und Belichtungssysteme sowie der Dünnschichttechnologie. Für industrielle Anwendungen fertigen wir Komponenten und Bauteile ebenso wie Prototypen und einsatzbereite Systeme.
Unsere Wissenschaftler entwickeln neuartige technische Lösungen für die Prozessmesstechnik, Bioanalytik und Mikro-Identifikation sowie Bahnmesstechnik und Sicherheitstechnologie. Weitere Schwerpunkte sind Systeme für die Produktionskontrolle und die Laserbelichtung.
Als wichtige Standbeine konnten sich während der letzten Jahre außerdem die Thermoelektrik und die Terahertz-Technologie etablieren.
